Breitling goes for the back of the net with a new Chronomat collaboration with football superstar Erling Haaland
Tom Austin- Breitling has partnered with superstar Manchester City striker Erling Haaland to produce a trio of limited-edition, meteorite-clad Chronomats.
- Two models are available to the public: a Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 that’s limited to 500 pieces, a Chronomat B01 42 limited to 250 pieces, and an ultra-limited edition of just 5 pieces reserved for Haaland’s friends and family.
- Each watch is finished with a unique meteorite dial (a first for Breitling), a bespoke engraved caseback and a signed note from the Norwegian pro footballer.
It’s not unusual for brands to associate themselves with some of the world’s highest-achieving individuals. Swiss brands pioneered this marketing strategy from the very beginning, elevating their brand image by not just selecting popular faces to sport their latest and greatest, but by choosing individuals who are the best in their field – not just winners, but also champions and record-breakers. Several brands followed suit, and it’s now considered de rigueur for any top A-lister to have a watch partnership. What is relatively unusual, however, is for brands actually to collaborate with these ambassadors to create a watch. Still, Breitling tends to do things slightly differently, and following previous collaborations with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Victoria Beckham, they have now partnered with Norwegian soccer superstar Erling Haaland by releasing a new collection of meteorite dial Chronomats.
Making timepieces with ‘The Terminator’
Haaland is one of the top goal-scorers in the game, known for his speed, strength, and devastating finishes, with the 24-year-old being dubbed ‘The Terminator’ for his steely performance and dour European demeanour. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not particularly into football myself, but seeing that even I know who Erling Haaland is shows his impact on the sport extends far beyond just hardcore fans. The Manchester City striker has been a Breitling ambassador since 2022 (and a well-known watch aficionado for years, long before his Breitling deal) and now, Breitling aims to strengthen Haaland fans’ connection to his story through their watches.
The collection comprises a trio of limited edition Chronomats, only two of which are available to the public. The first is a Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 in stainless steel with a platinum bezel, and the second is a full 18-carat red gold Chronomat B01 42. The third and final piece is a special 18-carat red gold one-of-five B01 42, featuring bespoke engravings of his name, jersey number and goal-celebration pose. This rare model is reserved exclusively for Erling himself, as well as his friends and family. All three watches feature unique meteorite dials to represent Haaland’s unique and out-of-this-world talent. Taken directly from the Muonionalusta meteorite, which landed in Haaland’s home region of Scandinavia, these are the first ever watches from Breitling to feature meteorite as a material choice.
Breitling Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 Erling Haaland
The Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 features a 40mm stainless steel case, framed by a polished platinum unidirectional rotating bezel. At 11.77mm thick, it’s comfortably proportioned, and the design of the Rouleaux stainless steel bracelet gives the watch an almost integrated look, which can be paired with the supplied rubber Rouleaux-style strap for a sportier look. Like the others, no two dials on the Chronomat GMT are the same, with the grey and silver Widmanstätten crystaline structure bringing a bespoke touch to each watch. The dial is framed by a thin black GMT ring and is contrasted with an 18k red gold seconds hand, which features Haarland’s “EH” initials.
Underneath the dial sits the Breitling Calibre 32, which is an ETA 2893-2-based, COSC-certified automatic GMT movement. It’s a caller GMT calibre with an independently adjustable GMT hand, modified by Breitling with a bespoke rotor, and offers a 42-hour power reserve. Finishing the watch and helping towards its commendable 200-meter water resistance is a solid caseback, engraved with “ERLING HAARLAND 9”, “ONE OF 500”, and finally an engraving of the footballer’s signature goal celebration pose.

Breitling Chronomat B01 42 Erling Haaland
The next model in the collection is based around the Chronomat B01 42 chronograph, a 42mm beast crafted from solid 18k red gold. A genuine statement piece, this is a large chunk of gold at 15.1mm thick, and unusually for a chronograph, it boasts a 200-meter water resistance rating. Again, this model features a unidirectional rotating bezel, this time with an inner tachymeter for the chronograph. The panda-style dial is crafted from the same Muonionalusta meteorite, contrasted with black sub-dials, and features all-gold hour markers and hands that again bear the EH initials.
Inside the watch beats the trusty Breitling Calibre B01, the brand’s in-house developed automatic column-wheel chronograph movement. Another COSC-certified calibre, it also features a date wheel at 6 o’clock, and a considerable 70-hour power reserve. It also looks gorgeous, too, visible through the sapphire exhibition caseback, which is also engraved with the same indications as the GMT, but this time limited to 250 pieces. The B01 is available on a black rubber Rouleaux-style strap or the heavy-hitting full gold Rouleaux bracelet.
Finally, there’s a third model in the Erling Haaland collection, which is a little more exclusive than the others. It’s again a Chronomat B01 chronograph in solid 18k red gold, featuring the same stunning meteorite dial and solid gold bracelet; however, this one boasts some subtle details that set it apart as the flagship. With only five being made, the flanks of the case are engraved with Haaland’s name and jersey number. The sapphire exhibition case back features a laser-etched image of Haaland’s lotus-position goal celebration, a move he uses to project a sense of calm and mindfulness amid the intensity of scoring. You’re more likely to catch sight of one of his goals than this watch, though, as it’s only being offered to Erling himself, along with his friends, family and associates. Breitling didn’t even share images of it with us…
