H . Moser & Cie ushers in a new pop era with the Endeavour Pop Collection
Tom Austin- Minimalist specialist H. Moser & Cie has unveiled its new Endeavour Pop Collection, featuring an assortment of evocative dial colours
- The expansive collection contains 18 different variations, all inspired by 6 gemstones, paired in two combinations on each watch
- Each combination is presented in 3 watch complications: a Small Seconds model, a Tourbillon, and finally, a breathtaking Minute Repeater Tourbillon
H. Moser & Cie is a brand with a definitive design language. They create stunning timepieces with a minimalistic approach and a focus on dials that will make your jaw drop. To say that H. Moser is a conservative brand would be a disservice; their watches, while sometimes lacking in obvious detail, are far from bland. However, it can probably now be said that their previous dial options could be described as restrained because they’ve just flipped the table and turned the colours up to 11. Unveiling the new Endeavour Pop Collection, H. Moser has combined not only colour pairings with these new watches but also two semi-precious gemstones onto each dial across 18, yes, eighteen different models.
The Endeavour Pop Collection comprises three foundational watches: the Small Seconds, a Tourbillon and a flagship Minute Repeater Tourbillon. Each model is available with a pairing of two different gemstones, with stones sliced and polished in layers to perfect the hues which sit together perfectly. Colours such as blue and green, orange and turquoise, and green and pink are matched to adhere to the rules of colour theory so they interact, creating visual harmony and balance.
Firstly, let’s talk about the watches. The Small Seconds arrives sized at 38mm in stainless steel, and at just 10.4mm thick, they’re wonderfully proportioned. The case design is elegant and minimalistic, as you would expect from the brand. The dial layout is typical H. Moser, devoid of clutter and logos, aside from the small seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock and, of course, the beautiful polished leaf hands. The self-winding HMC 202 calibre drives the watch, which is intricately decorated and visually stunning when viewed through the sapphire exhibition case back. There’s also a solid 18-carat gold rotating weight, powering the watch for at least 3 days at 21,600vph. The Small Seconds is finished with a matte grey alligator strap, with each one unique, and finished with a steel pin buckle. Each Small Seconds model is limited to 28 pieces in each colourway.
The next step up takes us to the Tourbillon, which features the same case design in stainless steel, but on this model, the proportions have been bumped up to 40mm in diameter and a thickness of 13.5mm. It’s not a huge step up, but the extra millimetres are required due to the movement. Generally speaking, the jump in size is relatively imperceptible at first glance. Again, looking through the sapphire caseback shows us the gorgeous HMC 805 calibre movement, equipped with the same 18-carat gold rotor driving the watch for a minimum of 3 days at 21,600bph, but this time with a flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock. It’s unusual to find a tourbillon in a steel watch, but I think this is a good move from Moser to express its technical abilities in the movement department but to keep the watch modern, contemporary, and not overly grandiose. The Tourbillon model also comes fitted with the dark grey alligator strap. Each of these models is limited to just eight pieces.
Finally, the real showstopper in the Endeavour Pop Collection is the Minute Repeater Concept Pop, with a dial that’s perhaps somewhat more loaded than the others, but for good reason. Firstly, the case features the same proportions as the Tourbillon, which is 40mm wide and 13.5mm thick. However, this model is crafted from 5N red gold, giving the watch an entirely more premium feel, and making it the collection’s star. Powered by the hand-wound HMC 904 calibre, the watch features both a flying tourbillon and a minute repeater function, operating in hours, quarters and minutes. The hammers and chimes are visible on the dial, along with the tourbillon at 6 o’clock, keeping the watch running at 21,600vph for a full 80 hours of power reserve. The movement is all hand-finished and finely decorated with the famous Moser double-stripes and skeletonised bridges. Once again, the grey alligator strap also appears on the Minute Repeater, but this time features a red gold folding clasp.
The main attraction of the Endeavour Pop Collection, however, are the dials. Each dial is created from vibrant and extremely rare natural stones, cut, polished, and then paired together to give each watch a different personality. All three watch variations are available in 6 combinations: Burmese jade, turquoise, coral, pink opal, lapis lazuli, and lemon chrysoprase, all selected from specific locations due to their purity and natural vibrancy. In typical Moser style, there are no logos or printing; this is all about the impact of the colour, and what an impact that is. The pairing of each dial variation is even flipped to offer an inverted version, so if you want, you can have either the Burmese jade as the background, with the pink opal discs, or visa-versa, hence why there are eighteen different variations in the collection. The dials are an epic interpretation of minimalism, meeting bold and immense variation.
The most striking thing here is the use of colour and just how vibrant they are; it’s not unlike H. Moser to do something unexpected. However, the contrasts and vibrancy in these models are vastly different from what we’ve seen before from them. This plays into the current trend of stone dial watches, but it also brings a sense of humour and joy to the brand, too, not that it didn’t have any before, but I’d even go as far to say that it takes a leaf out of Studio Underd0g’s playbook, and decides that watches don’t need to take themselves so seriously all the time.
