Everything that happened at our Zenith White Surfer launch events in London and Melbourne
Russell SheldrakeLast week, we launched our third and final collaboration with Zenith, completing the Surfer trilogy with the Zenith x Time+Tide Defy Skyline Skeleton White Surfer Ceramic. This full ceramic timepiece, paired with its ice blue gradient dial, makes for the ideal summer watch as it comes with both a full ceramic bracelet and a rubber strap. But you’ve read about all of these benefits, features, and specs already. What you want to read about right now is what happened when we introduced this ice-cool watch to the good people of London and Melbourne.
Thanks to our dual Studios, we can run sequential events, back-to-back, on opposite sides of the world, bringing the same vibe and excitement to both hemispheres. Even if the weather in London was a bit more suited to the summery vibe of the watch, Melbourne was tackling its mid-winter chill.
Fans of Zenith will be aware that they don’t do anything by halves. A fully integrated manufacture, they are capable of making every component of their watches, top to bottom. So when they came to us to host the launch events for this joint venture, we knew they were not going to hold back, and neither did we. While there are many benefits to being a member of a massive luxury group like LVMH, one of the big ones that we saw first-hand was the free-flowing Moët and Belvedere that was on hand in both Melbourne and London. And it wouldn’t be a good party without a good theme, and this night, blue was the colour to be seen wearing and drinking, as the talented bar staff mixed up cocktails to match the evocative dial of our collaboration.
Both our London and Melbourne Discovery Studios were packed for this one, as we welcomed regulars, newcomers, and Zenith VIP clients into our spaces. Of course, we had our full retinue of Time+Tide staff on hand in both locations, with the London team all wearing their fetching new baby blue Cuban collar shirts, and we were joined by a host of Zenith team members, including the brand’s Chief Products Officer, Romain Marietta.
After everyone had arrived and sampled the blue-tinged drinks, it was time to hear from the two men at the centre of this venture, our very own Andrew McUtchen and Romain, who had worked together on this, and the previous two Night Surfer models, with never ending streams of WhatsApps, long video calls, and intense in-person meetings. Whether it was in-person in London or via a pre-recorded video for those gathered in Melbourne, everyone got to get a better understanding of how this watch was made and what it takes to do three collabs on the trot.
Once the two of them took the mics, or the video kicked in, it was clear how well they have worked together over the last five years that have seen three watches be produced. They were both proud fathers up there, talking about the long relationship they have had and the process that has taken place for these three watches, and most importantly, the latest White Surfer.
After the speeches were finished, it was time for what many people came for, and that was to get hands-on with the new watch. With a few display models and maybe even a prototype knocking about, everyone who came was able to handle the watch and discover what it’s like in the metal (ceramic). Although that wasn’t the limit to the excitement in Melbourne as they hosted a prize draw for various giveaways – the headline lot being a Zenith Defy wall clock, a real centrepiece to add to any room. Melbourne even had a DJ playing fresh summery beats.
While we know these events mean that only a small percentage of our community is able to touch and handle the watch, we love hosting them and seeing people’s reactions when they first encounter a new timepiece. And we are even more excited that we will be able to bring this experience to New York in the not-so-distant future. Thank you to all who came – we can’t wait to see you at the next one!
I hope you enjoy some more photos from our Zenith launch below. Have a great weekend!

Watch meme of the week: we’ve all been there
View this post on Instagram
It can be hard being in this hobby/industry when your significant other has zero interest in watches. Just trying to get them to sit down and read an opinion piece on why the Datejust is the best modern Rolex can seem like an impossible task. Thankfully, we now have a watch podcast that looks to change things as Andrew, Ele, and Kristian look to make a new kind of watch podcast.
Wristshot of the week: rough rider
View this post on Instagram
This might be one of the hardest wristshots I’ve ever seen. Tadej Pogačar, widely known as the best cyclist of all time, took a tumble in the closing moments of Stage 11 of the Tour de France this week. Footage of him skidding across the road is enough to make you never want to ride a bike again. But to get a shot of his scuffed jersey and bloodied elbow, while showing his RM67-02 in perfect condition, might just be the best ad for Richard Mille I’ve ever seen.
Time+Tide shop pick of the week: Christopher Ward C60 Trident Reef
Adding to the summer heat, Christopher Ward has brought some brightly coloured energy to its holiday-ready diver line, the C60 Trident. Available in five different colour combinations, and two different sizes – 41mm and 44mm – there is something here that is sure to please everyone. Do you have to go out and collect them all? That’s not for us to say, but they are available to try on and buy exclusively in our London and Melbourne Discovery Studios now. Price: from £695/A$1,275.

Omega brings a touch of orange to the Seamaster Diver 300M
