Hublot kicks off summer 2025 with a multicoloured and micro-blasted ceramic Big Bang Unico
Tom Austin- Hublot officially brings in the summer with a colourful ceramic Big Bang Unico, pairing orange, white, sky blue and dark blue in a fresh, seasonal palette.
- With a look that’s customisable, the watch arrives with three interchangeable straps: sky blue, dark blue or orange.
- Now a tradition, the new Big Bang Unico Summer 2025 marks the eighth summer in a row where a new summer watch has been released.
It’s now the first week of June 2025, and oddly enough, for the UK at least, we’ve had a pretty impressive spring so far, so I’m sure I’m not alone in already noticing a tan line where my watch usually sits. This can lead us into wanting to find a “summer watch” – something light, on rubber, maybe with a splash of colour that looks great against our sun-kissed skin. Well, you can rely on Hublot to have just the watch for the job, introducing their new Big Bang Unico Summer 2025.
As is now tradition, Hublot holds a summer celebration every year, and has done so for the past eight years. Not only do they have a big party with the who’s who of the Hublot community in attendance, but they also take the opportunity to release a summer-themed watch. Previous highlights include watches such as 2022’s lairy Summer Purple and a Tiffany blue model in 2021 – both of which, in comparison to this year’s offering, almost look muted and even slightly understated.
2025’s summer watch returns in the form of the Big Bang Unico Chronograph, this time crafted from ceramic, but in a vibrant colourway that combines a sky blue ceramic bezel with a vibrant orange ceramic case and dark blue details, sandwiching a white inner core. The ceramic is micro-blasted all over, giving the watch a playful, almost toy-like finish, especially in these colours. The specs of the standard Big Bang Unico remain, with the case measuring 42mm in diameter and 14.5mm thick. Thanks to the titanium crown and chrono pushers, and ceramic screw down case back, it offers 100 meters of water resistance, which is particularly handy for a chronograph that will likely spend most of its time in or around the pool.
The summer vibes colour scheme continues throughout the skeletonised dial, featuring flashes of case-matching blue and orange, with darker blue pigments applied to the movement. The result is a striking and typically busy dial, which we’ve come to love on the Big Bang. It seems like every time you look closely, you still find something new, especially the bright yellow seconds hand with the brushed Hublot logo. Most of the decorative elements of the dial are treated to a similar microblasted finish as the case, ensuring a consistent look throughout. This texture is a nice addition, giving the watch a light and airy feel overall.
Peering through the dial, you can see one of the interesting aspects of Hublot’s in-house HUB1280 Unico movement; the column wheel and double-clutch mechanism are on the dial side, meaning you can see the mechanisms work when operating the chronograph buttons. The chronograph also features a flyback complication, which, unlike normal chronographs, allows you to reset the chronograph to zero without needing to stop it first. The HUB1280 is a solid automatic chronograph movement that is pleasantly finished and offers 72 hours of power reserve, beating at 4 Hz.
To match the three colours adorning the case and dial, each watch comes complete with three coordinated straps, all in Hublot’s signature rubber style. Naturally, each strap matches the case in orange, sky blue and dark blue, but like 2023’s Big Bang Unico Azur, the straps are lined with white rubber, which is an unusual contrast, but it really works with the subtle white elements of the case. The straps are interchangeable thanks to Hublot’s One-Click system, and are finished with titanium hardware to keep everything lightweight, and again, matching consistently with the case details.
