Baltic brings bouncy colour to the new Hermétique Summer collection
Borna Bošnjak- The Baltic Hermétique gets a new coat of paint, with four vibrant hues telling a summer tale – pick from yellow, pink, turquoise, and orange.
- Retaining a 37mm case diameter and 150 metres of water-resistance, these will be ideal beach companions.
- Available with colour-matched FKM rubber straps or classic Baltic bracelets, the Hermétique Summer starts at A$1,050.
Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen an increasing number of brands introduce summer-ready watches – from Norqain’s quirky Ice Cream chrono to Tudor’s surprising BB54 Lagoon Blue. Batting for budget-friendliness, Baltic is also joining in on the fun, introducing four bright new colours for its excellent all-rounder, the Hermétique. Accompanied by matching FKM rubber straps, the Baltic Hermétique Summer collection comprises a brightly coloured dial centre with a contrasting black minute rehaut. Match these to your gelato, your board shorts, or ideally, both.
One of my favourite things about the Hermétique is how well-balanced the dials are. The proportions are just right, and the bright colours thankfully don’t affect that. In fact, I’m glad that Baltic has kept their bi-colour thing going with the black background of the minute track, as having the entire dial painted in bright yellow might just be a bit much. As for the colours on offer, you can pick from yellow, pink, turquoise, and orange. One is just as bright and flashy as the next, but it’s that yellow that draws me in the most.
With a 37mm case diameter, 10.8mm thickness, and 46mm lug-to-lug, the Hermétique has always excelled in on-wrist performance, particularly on those less-endowed. With the thin, elongated lugs and visibly domed crystal, however, I’d say it looks the part on any wrist, and particularly so now once the bright colours have been added to the mix.
The push-pull crown is recessed into the case, and though it can be a tad hard to hand-wind if you’ve just cut your nails, I just love the look, so I can’t complain. Also crucial to how good the Hermétique is as an all-rounder are its 150-metre water-resistance and the drilled lugs, which both add to it a tooltastic edge.
Helping with its overall thickness, the Hermétique Summer is outfitted with Miyota’s 9039 automatic movement. It’s a tried-and-true performer that has now pretty much fully taken over from the Seiko NH35 at the more affordable end of the spectrum. Other than its slenderness, its features like a 4Hz beat rate and 42-hour power reserve have set it as the standard at this price point.
Finally, as it is with all Baltic models, you’re treated to some of the best strap monsters out there. The Hermétique Summer headlines with dial-matching FKM rubber straps – they really do tie the whole package together beautifully – but you can also option the watch with beads-of-rice or flat-link steel bracelets. And if you already have another Baltic with one of these bracelets, you can easily swap between models, as all of the brand’s offering has been made to fit their standard bracelet design.
