Vacheron Constantin’s Métiers d’Art goes stargazing, paying tribute to the 12 zodiac signs
Borna Bošnjak- With hand-guilloché motifs set with diamonds representing the constellations, the Vacheron Constantin Tribute to The Celestial is the ultimate stargazer’s watch.
- The 39mm white gold cases are set with baguette-cut sapphires to match the colour scheme, extending to the crown and pin buckle.
- Powered by a peripheral rotor tourbillon calibre, the Tribute to The Celestial collection is a €240,000 VC boutique exclusive.
In the realm of haute horlogerie, really anything goes as long as the the watches respect the nuances of what they’re creating. This means that things that may not fly at a price point that doesn’t count at least six figures suddenly just kind of, work? Exhibit A – Vacheron Constantin’s latest Métiers d’Art creation, the 12-piece Tribute to The Celestial collection that celebrates the night sky in a distinctly opulent manner. Each model features a unique guilloché dial that represents one of the zodiac signs, but also incorporates bling in a surprisingly subtle and clever way. That said, with that huge tourbillon aperture at 6, subtlety perhaps wasn’t the main priority.
Before I get into the movement, let’s inspect the dials a little more closely. To balance out the signature, slow-beating cage shaped like a Maltese cross, Vacheron’s artisans hand-make the celestial guilloché patterns, giving texture to the sunburst blue, solid gold dials. This grooved, geometric style to me looks like an evolution of their 270th anniversary dials introduced earlier this year at W&W 2025, and is matched by the really special fluted indices. But that’s not the best part of these dials, if you ask me. That honour goes to the actual constellations that are depicted with brilliant-cut diamonds, pairing perfectly with the guilloché.
What I found interesting is that, depending on the watch that you go for, you’ll get a different number of diamonds on the dial. Aries, for example, consists of only four to match the number of bright stars in the constellation. Pisces and Sagittarius, on the other hand, count 19 diamonds per dial. What a value proposition!
Jokes aside, I doubt that the appreciably tiny diamonds will sway people to go with a zodiac sign other than their own, especially when there’s so much gem-setting to appreciate outside of the dial. The entire bezel, lugs, crown, and pin buckle are set with baguette-cut sapphires, shaped perfectly as to not disturb the lines of the 39mm case. Fashioned from white gold, it gives the Tribute to The Celestial a properly sumptuous colour combination. A total of 112 sapphires bedecks this Vacheron, totalling nearly 4.5 carats.
But this watch is not just a pretty face either. I’d say it teases its mechanical mastery, but that giant tourbillon suspended from a hand-polished bridge isn’t really teasing as much as it’s overtly displaying the highlight of the Calibre 2160. Flip the watch over, and you’ll be met with Poinçon de Genève-worthy decoration, though with admittedly fewer internal angles than I’d like considering the cost. The finishing that is there has always been of a high degree when it comes to this movement, and though it might look like it’s manually wound, it hides a 22k peripheral rotor up its sleeves topping up the 80-hour power reserve.
